Bring an Ageing Roof Back to Life
A roof that's lost its colour, developed surface rust or picked up a build-up of moss and grime doesn't necessarily need replacing. At A Grade Roofs and Guttering, our roof restorations service brings tired roofs across Brisbane back to a clean, weatherproof and better-looking condition, covering everything from pressure cleaning and repointing to repainting and recoating. We assess the roof structure first to confirm restoration is the right call rather than pushing straight to a costlier fix. It pairs well with our roof repairs work where individual issues need addressing before a full restoration goes ahead. Call (07) 3523 7110 to arrange an assessment of your roof. For material-specific preparation, see tile roof restoration and metal roof painting. Roof painting is considered within a condition-led restoration plan; tile roof painting is one possible finishing stage, not a replacement for damaged tile or ridge repairs.

What's Involved in a Full Roof Restoration
A full restoration usually involves several stages, each addressing a different part of the roof's condition.
- 01
Cleaning & preparation
The roof is pressure cleaned to remove moss, lichen and built-up grime before any coating goes on. Proper preparation is what determines how long the finished result actually lasts.
- 02
Repointing & repairs
Cracked ridge capping and pointing are repaired as part of the process, closing off common entry points for water. Skipping this step is one of the most common reasons a restoration doesn't hold up.
- 03
Rust treatment
Metal fixings and any surface rust are treated before painting, stopping corrosion from continuing under a fresh coat. This step matters more on older roofs that haven't been maintained recently.
- 04
Painting & recoating
A weatherproof coating is applied once the surface is properly prepared, restoring both colour and protection. The right coating depends on the roof material and its current condition.
Questions we get asked
It depends on the coating used and local weather exposure, but a properly prepared and applied restoration is designed to protect a roof for a number of years. Regular gutter and roof maintenance in between helps it last as long as possible.
Yes, minor damage is usually repaired as part of the restoration process before cleaning and coating begin. More significant structural issues may need to be addressed separately first.
It can, since the final coating is chosen at the time of the restoration and doesn't have to match the original colour. Many people use a restoration as an opportunity to update the look of their roof.
Roof Painting Within a General Restoration
Our general roof restoration assessment considers the covering and required repairs before discussing painting. Tile roof restoration addresses tile-specific preparation and ridge condition, while metal roof painting focuses on metal substrates, corrosion and coating compatibility. Not every material or existing finish accepts the same coating, so surface renewal is planned around the roof found on site rather than presented as one treatment for all roofs.
